And Orlando Bloom is ready to join the reboot.

It's been almost ten years since Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theaters worldwide, leaving fans of the franchise in a state of agonizing anticipation.

Will Captain Jack Sparrow return? Will they see a reboot starring Margot Robbie? Does a sixth installment even exist? Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, whose name is inextricably linked to the pirate saga, has finally broken his silence.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bruckheimer didn't reveal any details, but he reassured fans that work on the movie is underway and that some of the rumors may be true:

“They're close on part of it. That's all I'll tell ya.”

Fans speculate that the upcoming movie will focus on Captain Jack Sparrow's son and introduce a new character played by Margot Robbie.

The current state of production remains a mystery, but Bruckheimer offered a hint. He said that Pirates of the Caribbean is just a little behind Top Gun in production, and he should receive the script for the latter very soon.

One thing is certain: Disney has no intention of burying a franchise that has earned the studio nearly $4.5 billion. The only question is what form its resurrection will take.

The History of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 6' Is Long and Complicated

The journey of the sixth installment to the screen is reminiscent of the plot of the Pirates franchise itself, with its betrayals, sudden twists, and disappearance of key characters.

In 2018, the studio announced a reboot starring Margot Robbie, but the project was shelved. Then, rumors surfaced of two parallel movies: a reboot and a full-fledged sequel. At some point, Disney decided to focus on one project.

Johnny Depp remains the main stumbling block. His legal saga with Amber Heard and his public rift with the studio have made his participation almost impossible. Almost, that is, because producer Jerry Bruckheimer has repeatedly hinted that the Pirates franchise is losing its soul without Captain Jack Sparrow.

Fans agree, and Orlando Bloom, who recently expressed his willingness to return as Will Turner, is also clearly open to a reunion. The actor said:

“I like the idea of, 20 years later, bringing everyone back and blowing it out. You'd certainly have a crustier, weirder looking Will Turner than you had back then.

But it's ripe for that kind of revisit, in the right way. I really don't know what they're doing with that.”

So, all we have left to do is wait for the news.
