Marvel’s first family has been long regarded as some of the most powerful characters, but not everyone might know that they’ve got their superpowers by a mere accident.

It’s been a long time coming for The Fantastic Four’s long history of failed movie adaptations now that it’s finally received a decent interpretation starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the movie grossed more than $200 million during its opening weekend, becoming Marvel’s best entry in years after a series of major failures and reviving audiences’ interest in the Marvel first family’s story.

Even though “The Fantastic Four” comes as a separate comic book that doesn’t require new fans to watch other Marvel movies, some might still be confused about how the four superheroes became a team and how exactly they gained their powers.

How Did The Fantastic Four Meet and Get Their Powers?

According to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s comic book series, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben aka The Thing have known each other since college years, becoming best friends on the way.

Later, Reed was introduced to Vanessa Kirby’s Susan aka Sue Storm when he was invited to her aunt’s house, eventually also meeting Sue’s younger brother Johnny, in the new movie portrayed by Joseph Quinn.

Sometime later, the four unite for Reed’s dream project of space exploration for which he decides to test his experimental rocket, despite Ben’s rising concerns about cosmic rays that might affect their well-being.

When they are launched into space, the characters do get exposed to the rays when the spaceship is penetrated, though neither of them feels weird at the moment.

As soon as they’re back to Earth, Reed notices his new ability to stretch his limbs while Sue disappears for a while as she’s now turned into Invisible Woman.

Meanwhile, Ben transforms into a rocky thing no one could find an appropriate name for, and Johnny overheats and takes his first flight as Human Torch.

Will There Be More ‘The Fantastic Four’ Movies?

There’s currently nothing to say about Marvel’s plans for exploring its first family’s story further, though the characters will definitely become a major part of the studio’s next big movie Avengers: Doomsday.

As The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ post-credits scene revealed, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will have a specific interest in Reed and Sue’s young son Franklin who he might be planning to use for something.

The movie is expected to be released in theatres worldwide on December 26, 2018.

In the meantime, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently playing in theatres.
