They learn from their mistakes.

Summary:

  • Young Sheldon is a CBS sitcom created as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory.
  • While the show tells the childhood story of one of TBBT's main characters, Sheldon Cooper, it doesn't follow the canon to the letter.
  • However, the show's EP has promised to bring back Sheldon's supposed best friend Tam for season 7.

There are a lot of things that Young Sheldon hasn't done in The Big Bang Theory so far, and many think that's for the best. While the original show will always be beloved by many fans, the prequel somehow manages to exist as a standalone show, as proven by all the viewers who haven't watched The Big Bang Theory.

The sitcom follows the life of the Cooper family in 90s Texas, so all the struggles they go through are relatable to many more people than the stories about young scientists from Pasadena. Both are equally great, but it would have been a big mistake for the writers to limit themselves to what was said in The Big Bang Theory.

Some major characters from Sheldon's early years of life made their way into the prequel, as did some major events.

According to series EP Steve Holland, the seventh and final season of Young Sheldon will tie up all the loose ends between the two shows to the best of the writers' ability.

What Happened to Tam in Young Sheldon?

According to The Big Bang Theory, Tam Nguyen was Sheldon's first and best friend in high school. After many years, however, he ended up on the enemies list. He didn't do anything bad, he just decided to stay with his girlfriend in Texas instead of being Sheldon's roommate.

Though it all worked out for the best and Sheldon got a whole group of friends, including his new roommate Leonard, Tam's "betrayal" wasn't forgiven and forgotten. This decision made him Sheldon's nemesis, although the feud was definitely one-sided.

Young Sheldon got off to a good start, introducing Tam and establishing their friendship. However, by the end of season 3, the guy was nowhere to be seen, and fans began to lose hope of ever seeing him again.

However, Steve Holland's recent comments to TVLine put an end to the rumors that Tam would not be returning. Not only will he appear, but according to the producer, "there will be a nod" to the story we've seen unfold in The Big Bang Theory. So viewers can be sure that at least this storyline will flow seamlessly from one show to the other.

Whatever Happened to Young Sheldon's Tam? Here's Why He's Not in TBBT

Tam won't be the only person to adhere to the canon established in the original show. Though Young Sheldon has done everything possible to keep viewers away from heartbreak for as long as possible, season 7 will also be the one where we have to say goodbye to George Sr.

Be sure to tune in to CBS every Thursday to not miss a single episode of Young Sheldon's final season.
