Violetta Efimova
An amateur-turned-professional cinephile who still hasn’t decided on her favorite film, Violetta finds joy in good old musicals, Martin Scorsese’s epic films, and, well, the captivating melancholy of Paul Mescal’s 24/7 depressed characters.
Film Journey & Career
A graduate of Moscow State University’s Faculty of Journalism, Violetta discovered her passion for cinema during her first university years. While still a student, she started writing film reviews for an English-language campus project—but her ambition took her further, to Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, where she sharpened her skills in film history. Her love for movies led to internships at film studios and even the Russian Film Festival in Paris. After dipping her toes into the international film industry, Violetta returned to her roots, writing about cinema for major Russian outlets like SRSLY and Kinoafisha.
TV Obsessions
Movies aren’t her only love—TV shows are another obsession. Between enduring endless hiatuses (House of the Dragon and Stranger Things, we’re looking at you), she’s always diving into new series. The White Lotus? Already watching. Only Murders in the Building? More like only binges in the building. The Last of Us? Not her usual genre, but an exception worth making. And, of course, the timeless Desperate Housewives—because rewatching classics never gets old.
Always Exploring
Violetta keeps a carefully curated watchlist while hunting for hidden gems across streaming platforms. And yes, she’ll gladly rant (or rave) about them to anyone who asks.
