Ten times Hollywood basically hit ctrl+C on classics and landed Oscar nominations.

As we get closer to the 96th Oscar Awards, it's the perfect time to check out some of these standout remakes; they're proof that sometimes, telling a story again in a new way can be just as powerful, if not more so, than the first time around.

Movie remakes are all about bringing old stories back to life with new technology and a fresh perspective, and sometimes, they do it so well that they end up getting nominated for the biggest award in movies: the Oscar for Best Picture.

This happens when filmmakers take a classic story that everyone loves and find a way to make it even more exciting or beautiful, adding new scenes or using better cameras and effects that they didn't have when the original was made.

It's like taking an old, faded photograph and coloring it in so that everything looks bright and new again; the story stays the same, but the way it's told makes you see it in a whole new light.

And every now and then, one of these remakes is so good that it not only gets people talking but also impresses the folks who decide on Oscar nominations, showing that even though the idea isn't brand new, the way it's been redone is so special it deserves to be considered one of the best movies of the year.

The upcoming Oscars ceremony will unfold at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 10, with the main event slated for a 7 p.m. Eastern Time start. A half-hour introductory segment is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET (3:30 to 4:00 p.m. PT), paving the way for the live show. ABC will broadcast the ceremony live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood to an international audience in over 200 territories.
