1923 Ending Labeled ‘One of the Stupidest Series Finales’ After Season 2 Wrap

Taylor Sheridan has recently received numerous waves of backlash ahead of his hit show’s conclusion. Here’s another one.
It might be all over for Taylor Sheridan ’s 1923, though the show will likely have its fans talking for a very long time from now on.
The series’ second season, launched back in February, has just concluded its run on Sunday night, initially promising a satisfying finale with a runtime of almost two hours.
However, all the excitement quickly went down, proving that all the criticism Taylor Sheridan has been receiving recently might have been deserved after all. Now that one more of Yellowstone ’s prequels is gone, some fans are once again reassured they were right about Sheridan’s weak spot all along.
1923 Fans Slam Season 2 Finale For Ruining the Entire Show
Despite this season’s penultimate episode giving a sneak peek into yet another bloodbath in the finale, the audiences kept their hope for a satisfying resolution which, apparently, wasn’t there.
“You spend two seasons building up this long, drawn-out battle that's coming, and it's about three minutes of action on screen”, ButtPlugForPM complained on Reddit, also adding that “Taylor Sheridan literally tortured Alex to death... there is no overachieved plot goal of killing her off” and “It just wasted two seasons of storytelling”.
“The shootouts were pretty well done but I'm so fucking angry about Alex that I'm not going to defend the finale at all”, -Poliwrath- chimed in, also alluding to the devastating plot twist.
Another user nicknamed envision83 said they “lost interest after the third or fourth episode this season. Season one was pretty good I thought. This season sucked”.
Additionally, some fans even pointed out Taylor Sheridan’s major flaw.
“Sheridan has trouble finishing/continuing stories. Look at the mess of Lioness, Tulsa King, and Yellowstone. I didn’t even bother watching this season,” Redditor silentwind262 said.
1923 Isn’t the Only Show Taylor Sheridan Gets Criticised For
Despite having gained massive success on Paramount+, Sheridan’s numerous hit series have repeatedly received backlash for various reasons.
The director’s latest Western-y show Landman did well with critics, but fell short with some viewers who slammed Sheridan for a bad writing of female characters.
Things were different with Yellowstone’s prequels 1883 and 1923 which, according to the latter’s actor Jerome Patrick Flynn, Sheridan trusted into the hands of his fellow director Ben Richardson while being constantly absent from the set.
