4 Movies Stuck in Production Hell We Can’t Wait to Finally Watch 

There is a very scary and dark place in Hollywood called Production Hell. Brilliant projects perish there: even if the movie already has a script, the actors have been approved, and an excellent director has been found, it is not a fact that the movie will be made.

Many fans are tired of waiting for these four movies, and some have completely lost hope.

1. At The Mountains of Madness by Guillermo del Toro

Back in 2006, Guillermo del Toro said he wanted to adapt H.P. Lovecraft's novel At The Mountains of Madness, about an Antarctic expedition that stumbled upon something terrible. Del Toro teamed up with Matthew Robinson, who wrote the screenplay. And then disputes arose over the budget and the finale – it was different from Hollywood happy endings.

But the biggest controversy was over the rating: the director insisted on an R rating, while the studio insisted on a PG-13. After the release of Ridley Scott 's science fiction film Prometheus, del Toro said he did not want to make a movie so similar to Scott's project. However, in 2013, the director added that he would try again in the future.

2. Rendezvous with Rama by Denis Villeneuve

Arthur C. Clarke's sci-fi classic Rendezvous with Rama was published in 1973. The book tells about a strange cylindrical spaceship that arrives in our solar system in the 2130s.

Since 2000, Morgan Freeman had been dreaming of making this movie, looking for a screenwriter and seeing David Fincher as a director. Every few years it was reported that Freeman had not given up on his plans.

Finally, in 2022, it was announced that the film would be made, but that the director would not be Fincher, but Denis Villeneuve, who had brilliantly proven that he could handle large-scale stories by directing Dune. When audiences will finally be able to see the movie, however, remains a mystery.

3. Crusade by Paul Verhoeven

After their successful collaboration on the sci-fi action film Total Recall, Arnold Schwarzenegger and director Paul Verhoeven decided to create a large-scale historical film about the First Crusade. They wanted to do something no less grandiose than Lawrence of Arabia, and had already begun preparations for filming.

But then it turned out that such a film would cost more than $100 million, and the studio did not dare to invest that kind of money. The financing was stopped and the project was frozen. But maybe not forever, and there is still hope?

4. Blood Meridian by James Franco

Once upon a time, the post-apocalyptic movie The Road was based on Cormac McCarthy's book of the same name. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize and other awards, and Viggo Mortensen starred in the film adaptation. Later, there was talk of adapting another of the author's books, Blood Meridian.

Although the novel is full of vicious and disgusting characters, and some say it is impossible to translate to the screen, James Franco has shot test footage for Blood Meridian. But then it turned out that he doesn't have the book rights.

Now, Franco is no longer the one to direct Blood Meridian; instead, the movie will be made by John Hillcoat — the very person behind The Road.
