Stephen King is as popular on the page as he is on the screen. We remembered which of his novels have not yet been made into movies or TV series.

As Mike Flanagan works on the next adaptation of The Dark Tower, the most prolific horror writer of our time has stories no less worthy of at least one adaptation gathering dust on his shelf.

We remember the books by the King of Horror that never made it to the screen, big or small.

1. The Eyes of the Dragon

The king of the country of Delain has two sons. The first is Peter and the second is Thomas. The older is his father's main hope and support. The younger is a jealous child.

But it was Peter who was accused of murdering his father and imprisoned in a tower. It is there that the prince realizes who and why framed him, and he intends to escape.

The Eyes of the Dragon is a fantasy novel, a softer version of Game of Thrones. Stephen King wrote it for his daughter, who did not like her father's scary stories. Hulu was going to make a miniseries based on this story, but in 2020 they announced the cancellation due to lack of budget.

2. Sleeping Beauties

Dooling is a small town where nothing remarkable happened. Until the women began falling asleep en masse, covered in a thin layer of white tissue.

Only one girl, Evie Black, was immune to the strange disease. She appeared in town at the height of the epidemic.

The adaptation of Sleeping Beauties is important to Stephen himself. He wrote it together with his son Owen King. In 2019 it became known that the TV adaptation was made by AMC. However, there was no news about the project for five years.

3. The Star Invaders

King published The Star Invaders himself, but does not even remember how many copies he made. The text reflects the influence of the sci-fi movies that the young King adored.

According to the plot, robot-like aliens invade Earth, and only the strength, ingenuity, and courage of the main character prevent them from taking over the planet.

The Star Invaders is notable for two reasons. Although King tried to write science fiction, he was best at portraying horror elements.

In one scene, the aliens torturing the main character's friend say that everyone has innermost fears, and they will definitely bring them out. And isn't that what King did for most of his career?

4. Rose Madder

Rosie Daniels, tired of the tyranny of her husband, decides to start a new life. She moves to a new city, finds a job and meets a man.

She also buys a painting of a woman in a scarlet cloak in an antique shop. With the help of this unusual thing, you can briefly enter another world. Which comes in handy because her husband is already looking for Rosie.

Stephen King had already worked on the script for the Rose Madder movie. But in the end he wrote a new plot, which became the basis for the series Rose Red about ghost hunters.

The last time there was talk of a film adaptation of the book was in 2011, when Palomar Pictures and Grosvenor Park were going to take on the project.
