Have these shows snuck into the list, or have they earned their place among the best of the best?

2024 is shaping up to be a banner year for sci-fi, and we're only 3 months in. Multiple video game adaptations, as well as continuations of legendary stories, have taken center stage and claimed their places among the best of the best sci-fi series.

3 Body Problem

IMDb 7.8/10

The mistakes of the past reverberate into the future, as decisions made in China in the 1960s leave those in the present facing a powerful extraterrestrial threat.

As an adaptation of a book, 3 Body Problem remains more or less faithful to its source material. Bringing Cixin Liu's The Three Body Problem to life for Western audiences seemed like an unattainable feat, especially after Chinese TV network Tencent apparently tried and failed to debut its own adaptation of the same material.

The Acolyte

The Star Wars franchise lives on through The Acolyte, as the series takes fans on a journey to uncover the dark government secrets in the final days of the High Republic era.

Star Wars has released some highly criticized series and spin-offs of the iconic originals, but despite the heavy burden of the franchise's previous shortcomings, The Acolyte has begun by potentially correcting one of the franchise's biggest mistakes. The legendary yellow lightsabers made an appearance in the trailer, and fans are hopeful that it will make its long overdue appearance in the upcoming series.

X-Men 97'

IMDb 9.0/10

X-Men 97' continues the themes we've come to know and love from the X-Men franchise, focusing on a powerful group of mutants who use their abilities to protect the humans who hate and fear them.

X-Men 97' seems to have tapped into the nostalgia of the comics and previous cinematic works, though some fans have reacted negatively to the series' trailer, claiming failed attempts at being 'woke' by depicting Morph as non-binary. Despite a few complaints, fans have faith in the X-Men franchise and expect the series to be exciting and new while paying homage to its origins.

Constellation

IMDb 6.9/10

The stars are all but aligned for Jo, who returns to Earth after a disastrous mission in space, only to find secrets, lies and bits of her life inexplicably missing.

Constellation may feel out of place in the sci-fi section, as audiences were expecting some sort of space exploration, but found themselves pulled down to Earth for a psychological mystery. However, the otherworldly conspiracies make up for the initial confusion in this unsettling, deceptive drama, earning it a spot on IMBd's Top 10 list.

Fallout

In this futuristic series, the inhabitants of a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles are forced to live underground to protect themselves not only from nuclear radiation, but also from mutants and bandits.

The Last of Us marked a new beginning for video game adaptations, which have been relatively disappointing, straying from the source material and lacking the depth that the stories had in the video game version.

Bringing a game as complex and beloved as Fallout to the big screen is no easy feat, and despite an army of critical video game players, the series seems to be starting off on the right foot. With the promise of a deep story and stunning visuals, we can only hope that Fallout lives up to its origins.
