Let’s just say female empowerment wasn’t Supernatural’s strongest trait.

It's no secret that one of the main points of criticism of Supernatural was the fact that the show was full of male heroes, but critically lacking in female characters.

Or to be more precise, it lacked female characters with strong personalities, interesting backgrounds, and a lifespan longer than a couple of seasons.

Luckily, during the 15 seasons of the show, the writers managed to create at least 5 consistently cool storylines for female characters, and these 5 live rent-free in the minds of the fans to this very day.

Here's the full list, so go ahead and find your favorite.

Jody Mills

Jody may have been one of the most solid characters on the show, not only because of her arc, but because of how decent of a person she was.

Always kind and putting everyone else before herself, she became a mother figure to Sam and Dean and opened her home to the Wayward Girls, treating them as her own. The only thing she lacked was a proper sendoff.

Donna Hanscum

Another character with an impressive history. She started out as a silly and humorous character, but managed to become a complete badass, impressing everyone with her strength.

One of the few characters on the show you'd actually want to be best friends with, and most importantly, a great representative of all Midwesterners out there.

Charlie Bradbury

Okay, we all know how tragically Supernatural let Charlie down in the end, using his death as a tool to move the story forward.

However, it wasn't exactly her character's fault, but rather a bad writing decision. Charlie, who was so beloved not only by the viewers but also by Dean, remained consistently awesome throughout her entire run.

Bella Talbot

The whole concept of the black market for supernatural artifacts was very interesting to explore, and Bella was just the character the show needed to continue to challenge the Winchesters in the best way possible.

Her character just happened to be dirty, as Season 3 was heavily altered by the WGA strike.

Rowena MacLeod

According to the vast majority of fans, Rowena remains one of the most iconic female characters in the Supernatural universe.

She was funny, she was powerful, she was beautifully portrayed by Ruth Connell, and most importantly, her storyline made complete sense, which isn't something you see on Supernatural all the time.
