A 13-Million-Copy Fairy Tale Universe Comes to Life — 'The Land of Stories' Heads to the Big Screen

Glee star Chris Colfer brings his fantasy world to film.
Warner Bros. is diving into a new fantasy franchise, having acquired the rights to adapt The Land of Stories, the bestselling book series by actor and author Chris Colfer. With over 13 million copies sold across 35 countries, the series has already cast a long spell over readers — now it’s heading to cinemas.
Chris Colfer, best known as Kurt from Glee, is also the author of over 20 books. He'll produce the film alongside Emma Watts, with Rob Weisbach as executive producer. Colfer will take an active role in bringing his story to screen.
The story follows twins Alex and Conner Bailey. After their father's death, they fall into a magical book and enter a world where fairy tales are real — and more dangerous than expected. To get home, they must journey through a land full of familiar stories and unexpected threats.
Phil Johnston, Oscar-nominated co-writer of Ralph Breaks the Internet, Wreck-It Ralph, and Zootopia, will write the script. Known for mixing heart and humour, he seems well suited to Colfer’s world of magic and emotion. After all, good fairy tales — like good family films — know how to make us feel.
It’s still early days for the project, but with Colfer involved and the right creative team in place, hopes are high. After all, who better to guide us into this universe than the person who built it?
