A new update about the changes in the upcoming movie made some fans believe that they can predict the whole generic story.

After The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023, there will only be one more movie (except for Blue Beetle, which is an all-new DC release) to mark the end of the "old" DCU before James Gunn begins to fully reform the cinematic universe in his own vision.

It may also be the last time we see Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry or Aquaman, so fans are eager to see what Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has in store for them.

However, the latest update regarding the film has left them with mixed feelings.

James Wan, who also directed the first film, recently shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel will be different in tone from the previous one.

It will be "a little bit more serious" and will deal with important real-life issues such as climate change, leaning into it "in a big way" because the original comics were always environmentally conscious. Still, the director said that Aquaman 2 is "still a fun action-fantasy movie."

Some fans are happy to hear this, as they were a bit disappointed that the first movie didn't address this issue, as everyone was using aquatic animals as drones, missiles, and vehicles, which seemed rather odd.

However, it seems that not everyone is happy about this change.

They are worried that it will just be another movie where the antagonist wants to fight a problem too radically, so the protagonist is forced to defeat him in order to protect the status quo, without actually having anything substantive to say about the matter.

Fans also believe that they can now predict the plot of the movie, with Aquaman finding another subspecies of aquatic people who have lived in isolation for a long time and are now angry at him and the Atlanteans for not protecting the oceans from human pollution.

Fans will have to wait a while to see if the movie will offer a new take on the subject, or if their concerns were indeed valid and it will be just another "humans are bad" story.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on December 20, 2023.
