'Ask the producers': what happened to Davina from Selling Sunset, in her own words
Davina Potratz's shortest explanation of what went wrong for her on Selling Sunset is three words long, and she posted it on Twitter.
Selling Sunset has followed the agents of the Oppenheim Group, a Los Angeles luxury real estate brokerage, on Netflix since March 2019. Davina, a German-born agent, was a recurring face in season 1 and a main cast member from season 2. She was on the show through season 5, appeared only briefly in season 6, came back as a guest in season 7 and hasn't been on since.
The first exit
Davina left the Oppenheim Group once before she left the show. In October 2020, between seasons 3 and 4, she took a job in the new development division of rival brokerage Douglas Elliman. She told People why.
"It's not that I wanted to leave, but I had a great opportunity," Davina told People.
"It was a purely business decision," she added, and of the show: "I certainly hope that I'm still part of the cast." She was: she negotiated a return partway through season 4.
"Ask the producers!"
The line came on September 8, 2022, a few months after season 5. Photos of Davina at Burning Man were going around on Twitter, and one commenter asked where that energy had been when she was on the show. Davina's reply: "Ask the producers!"
She had been saying a version of it for two years. In 2020, she told Page Six, "I actually am the jokester with my friends," and that that side of her "maybe isn't dramatic enough for the show," so "they don't show a lot of that."
The fade
After season 5, her screen time shrank season by season:
- Season 6 (May 2023) — a handful of brief appearances.
- Season 7 (November 2023) — a guest spot.
- Seasons 8 and 9 (2024 and 2025) — not in the cast.
No official reason has been given.
What she says about her edit
Davina has given her own, in several interviews since. Speaking to The Blast in 2025, she said the problem started with how she was introduced, or wasn't.
"I didn't even get an introduction. No one even knew I was from Germany," Davina told The Blast.
"I just feel like I wasn't given a balanced edit," she said, and "I don't think I was treated with the same grace as the others." In comments published by The Blast this August, she went further:
- On the fight at Christine Quinn's wedding: "Maya and Heather were defending me, but their comments were muted out."
- On Chrishell Stause: "Fakeness personally rubs me up the wrong way."
- On the rest of the cast: "a lot of people in the cast did not speak their mind," likely, she said, "because of what they saw happen to me when I did."
Would she go back?
Yes, on conditions. In 2024, she told the Daily Mail she "definitely would" return, but added: "I do wanna feel like I'm not being bullied." She has kept selling real estate, and in 2024 she was again listed as an agent on the Oppenheim Group's website.
Netflix has announced a 10th season of Selling Sunset for 2026. Davina isn't in its cast list.
