Back to the Future Writer Shuts Down Sequel Rumours Once and For All

There’s always been a line of Hollywood directors to helm something directed to Back to the Future. Now it isn’t an option, and here’s why.
In the time of Hollywood’s obsession with all sorts of remakes, Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future holds a special charm as one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time.
The trilogy officially wrapped back in 1990, but endless rumours about possible sequels or spinoffs never really died down since then.
In fact, the franchise has been constantly dragged out of its deserved rest by tons of fancasting ideas. At some point there had to be enough of all this, and now it does seem like one of Back to the Future’s helmers did have enough.
Back to the Future Screenwriter Has a Precise Response About Potential Sequels
It’s fair to say every new interview for any member of Back to the Future’s production team has most likely been quite a torture, so the franchise’s writer Bob Gale has just shut it all down with one definite response.
“I mean, it’s like they know in every interview people say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a “Back to the Future 4”?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. It’s just fine the way it is. It’s not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It’s perfect enough’”, Gale said during Universal Fan Fest Nights.
He also lamented many fans not understanding how it all actually works, suggesting that “they think that if they say it enough times, we’re going to actually do it”.
Back to the Future Fans See Only One Problem With Bob Gale’s Words
Even though most of the franchise’s fandom does agree no one really needs a remake or a spinoff or whatever other new thing related to Back to the Future, some still stick to the idea that big studios won’t care that much about Gale’s opinion on the matter at some point.
“Until Gale or Zemeckis die off. Though I’d imagine there nothing stopping Universal from making a new film”, Redditor NaiRad1000 pointed out in a thread’s comments.
“Honestly, the way Universal has been propping up the property in the parks lately, you can tell they’re just waiting for the Bobs to be gone so they can start pumping out sequels and spin-offs”, SoundRavage confirmed too.
“If there were ever going to be a prequel or additional sequel, the time for it is long past. It wouldn't have the magic without the same cast. I wouldn't be opposed to a spiritual successor that pays homage to the trilogy but tells it's own story though”, __hey__blinkin__ suggested.
