Every shadow it cast in flight was carefully designed.

In the beloved animated film Up, there are a staggering 10,297 balloons that lift the main character’s house into the sky. What’s truly remarkable is that the animators didn’t just simulate a balloon canopy; they actually created each individual balloon. Jon Reisch, the effects artist behind this feat, explained :

"The entire canopy is filled with balloons. We didn’t merely simulate the outer shell."

The team went to great lengths to ensure every balloon was accounted for, even obtaining an exact count of 10,297 balloons. This meticulous attention to detail contributed significantly to the film’s visual charm and realism, making the floating house scene both magical and believable. Such dedication highlights how animation teams often go above and beyond to bring fantastical worlds to life with astonishing precision.
