The Duchess is always welcome to her family home.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a Netflix romantic period drama series based on Julia Quinn's novel of the same name.
  • Each season of the show follows a Bridgerton sibling and their love story.
  • The star of the first season, Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne, will not return for season 3, but may appear in the future.

There are many different factors that played into Bridgerton's initial success on Netflix. Not only was the show released in the wake of the global pandemic, when many people were forced to stay home and binge-watch whatever the streaming platforms had to offer, but it also hit all the right notes for viewers looking for an escape.

Bridgerton has everything we love about humanity. It offers a variety of romantic tropes, true loyal friendship and, of course, the family bond that many of us wish we had in our lives. With eight siblings, each with their own quirks and striving for different things in life, Bridgerton doesn't risk becoming repetitive and boring.

The only thing that might bother fans are the long breaks between seasons. Each one seems to take about two years to produce, and considering that only three of the eight siblings have already had their seasons, the audience finds it hard to believe that everyone has a chance to have their own season.

And even if they do, there is no way the older leads will stick around for cameos.

Why Did Phoebe Dynevor Leave Bridgerton?

Though Phoebe Dynevor and Rege-Jean Page will forever remain in the hearts of viewers as the original Bridgerton couple who welcomed everyone to the magical world of Regency balls, pastel dresses and Ariana Grande instrumental covers, neither will appear in an upcoming season 3.

While Rege-Jean Page left the show right after his season, unable to negotiate the terms of his contract with Netflix and Shondaland, his co-star stayed on for another season. In Julia Quinn's novels, Daphne Bridgerton remains a prominent character throughout all 8 books. In the show, however, she will disappear after helping her older brother Anthony in season 2.

Dynevor confirmed that while speaking to Screen Rant:

“Sadly, I’m not in season 3. Maybe, in the future. But yeah, season 3 I’m just excited to watch as a viewer,” the actress said.

While this leaves some room to hope for Daphne in the future, Phoebe Dynevor was poised for great success after Bridgerton, so her desire to explore the career further is completely understandable.

The same scenario is likely to repeat itself with season 2 stars Jonathan Bailey and Simone Asheley, both of whom have very busy schedules at the moment. Although Bridgerton fans are hoping that all of the older Bridgertons will make small cameos here and there, it's clear that the actors aren't being held back by the show's production.
