Let’s just hope they won’t have to turn into E-girls before season 4 arrives.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a Netflix show produced by Shondaland based on the book series by Julia Quinn. The story focuses on the romance of each of the 8 Bridgerton siblings.
  • The production faced a lot of challenges, so each season is released with a significant break in between. Although there aren't many major time jumps within the show, the crew makes sure that Bridgerton's aesthetic is period-appropriate.
  • In anticipation of season 3's release date, fans are theorizing about upcoming fashion changes based on BTS and promotional images.

There are many things that make a period drama successful. You have to have a story full of romance and political intrigue, you have to have a strong family bond, you have to have some characters rebelling against the order of life and others dreaming of higher rank. But more importantly, you have to be able to create the perfect atmosphere.

Shonda Rhimes' Bridgerton never had a problem with that, considering that the production team used the most beautiful buildings in England to shoot the scenes. With a few touches from the decorators, the sets looked exactly like what you would imagine the homes of the British aristocracy would have looked like in the 1800s.

Another thing that a show like this always has to focus on is the appearance of the characters. From head to toe, they have to be dressed and styled to match the period in which the show takes place. But Bridgerton was always mixing and matching styles to fit both the era and the fictional universe of the show.

Though it was sometimes difficult to find the right balance, the Bridgerton team used every source available to them to make period drama fans truly happy. This trend seems to continue in the upcoming season 3 as the fashion moves forward.

Bridgerton Fashion Meaning

It's no secret that fashion has always played a huge role in Bridgerton's universe, just as it did in real life during the Regency period of the 1800s. From the style of dresses to the materials used, to the colors that perfectly represent each house, you had to pay attention to every single detail of Bridgerton's wardrobe to not miss a metaphor.

Even in Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story, a prequel to the series released in May of this year, the subject of the Queen's clothes was somewhat crucial to the story.

Just as we see in Bridgerton, Charlotte has impeccable taste in fashion but chooses to wear more old-fashioned dresses to appeal to her husband George, who suffers from a mental disorder.

That's what Sara Idacavage, a researcher in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising, and Interiors at the University of Georgia, said in an interview with Netflix TUDUM, discussing how Bridgerton brings out the best trends of the era while leaving others behind:

“As fashion historians, we tend to notice what is wrong before we notice what is right. But, at the same time, with a show like Bridgerton, the appeal is that it’s not real. It’s a fantasy. And that nothing is supposed to closely resemble real life. It’s supposed to take you away and put you into this spectacle of textiles and colors and hair and beauty and everything.”

Bridgerton Season 3 Fashion Changes

While there aren't many details about the upcoming season 3, there are some interesting things that fans have been able to spot on the officially released promotional photos from season 3, as well as on the behind-the-scenes filming snapshots.

Although there aren't many great pictures of dresses and costumes, apart from Penelope Fatherington, there are quite a few pictures where we can see the actors from the shoulders up.

For example, the hairdo of Ruth Gemmell, who plays Lady Violet Bridgerton in the show, suggests a new look. The one that looks very similar to what Kate Sharma had back in season 2 during the Diamond Ball.

Whether this is related to the change of fashion within the show and we will see all characters dressed differently in the future, or if this is Violet's nod to Kate as the new viscountess, is not yet clear. One thing is for sure, fans cannot wait to see the cast rock their new looks on camera.

Unfortunately for all the die-hard Bridgerton fans, there isn't much good news coming their way right now. The rumors about Netflix releasing season 3 of the show on December 14th don't seem to be true, as there are no promotional materials or events being held.

As much as viewers are hoping for some updates, for now they're left rewatching previous seasons in the dark about the fate of the upcoming ones. Be sure to keep an eye out so you don't miss anything important!
