Demi Moore’s 5 Best Movies and Shows to Watch Before Her Possible Oscar Win

The actress is currently the frontrunner for the award after starring in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance.
Before sweeping most of the the major awards (apart from the Oscars so far) and having her career revived thanks to The Substance, Demi Moore has been around for decades, though many of her previous movies have long been overlooked.
Moore herself has been considered a popcorn actress, which she also admitted while receiving her Golden Globe back in January, yet it’s fair to say the actress never deserved getting such a status, especially since some of her flicks actually did well with critics.
Here’s a short list of Moore’s movies which surely need a boost before the actress finally takes that Oscar this Sunday.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
You probably had no idea the actress was connected to this Disney musical drama, but Moore actually gave her voice to Esmeralda, one of the leads in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Based on Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel of the same name, the animated feature mostly follows Quasimodo, a deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame as he navigates through life trying to convince the Parisian society of his good intentions, despite repellent looks.
Almost 30 years in, the movie holds 80% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
A Few Good Men (1992)
Starring opposite Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise in one of the leading roles, Demi Moore brought her own charm to the movie that, apart from screenwriting and direction, was also praised for acting.
Directed by Rob Reiner, A Few Good Men follows Tom Cruise’s military lawyer defending two U.S. Marines accused of killing a fellow Marine, though things change radically when it’s implied that the alleged criminals were most likely following the order from a commanding officer.
The film was a massive hit back in 1992 and still holds a critical score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Margin Call (2011)
In this mystery drama, Moore stars alongside Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Penn Badgley and Stanley Tucci, portraying chief risk management officer Sarah Robertson who joins her forces to save the company she works in from financial collapse.
The story is loosely based on something that could’ve easily happened during the 2008 financial crisis and sees the company’s key players forced to take extreme measures once the analysts are reassured that the downfall is inevitable.
Margin Call was released in 2011 and currently has a critical score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Unbearable Weight of a Massive Talent (2022)
Though this comedy thriller primarily follows Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal as two buddies trying to prevent a huge tragedy, the viewers can be sure a brief, but still pleasant surprise awaits them in the second part of the film.
In The Unbearable Weight of a Massive Talent, Moore stars as Nicolas Cage’s on-screen wife and makes a short appearance alongside her on-screen daughter.
The movie holds 87% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
If These Walls Could Talk (1996)
The Substance wasn’t the first time when the actress actually received nods from major awards as this drama thriller brought her both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.
Starring and partially directed by Cher, If These Walls Could Talk sees the characters of Demi Moore, Sissy Spacek and Anne Heche dealing with an experience of abortion, though the events take place in the same house, but 22 years apart from one another.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie still holds a critical score of 86%.
