More Easter eggs, callbacks and references galore!

The new official trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, which is going to premiere on March 1, has dropped on January 16 and judging by the number of views, interest in the show remains fairly strong.

Some of the trailer's elements are on the nose in their presentation. For example, it straight up says what the main characters are going to visit Mandalore for an important purpose.

But how about various smaller details?

Some of them serve as callbacks to the previous seasons. For example, Din Djarin meets Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), the magistrate of the newly prospering Nevarro in front of the statue which depicts IG-11 (Taika Waititi ) with its foot placed on a pile of stormtrooper helmets.

In Season 1, when the Imperial Remnant troops have cornered the main cast, IG-11 self-destructed to wipe out a whole squad, thus helping to free Nevarro. Other droids appear not as statues – we see a bunch B1 battle droids in the droid bar. As you can remember, Din Djarin has a bad history with Confederate battle droids, which might become relevant in the new season.

Other elements of the trailer foreshadowed the future events in vague ways. Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) of the New Republic appears in it to say:

"There's something dangerous happening out there, and by the time it becomes big enough for you to act, it'll be too late."

Which is a truism, given that the New Republic is canonically going to get obliterated by the First Order, but since the threat Teva is talking about is likely to be something that the series' cast can realistically overcome, he probably means some machinations by one faction of the Imperial Remnant or another.

We've already seen that they are up to no good, with Moff Gideon's (Giancarlo Esposito ) wanting to use Grogu for unspecified experiments and developing the Darktroopers. And he was not working alone.

And we saw a glimpse of his associate, Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi), in the trailer.

And Pershing appears to be in a middle of a great city of glowing skyscrapers and flying cars. The only well-known planet in the canon that has vistas like this is Coruscant, the capital of the Old Republic and the Empire, and it seems quite possible that the trail of intrigue will lead Din Djarin there at one point.
