Cheers for another adventure of a lifetime.

Summary:

  • Doctor Who is a British science fiction television series that has been on the air since 1963.
  • The new season, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th incarnation of the Doctor, is expected to premiere in 2024.
  • Genesis Lynea, a star of Netflix 's Shadow & Bone, has been announced to join the sci-fi hit for the new season.

All the changes Doctor Who has faced in late 2023 and 2024 have been as confusing as they have been exciting. Thanks to a major partnership with Disney Plus, the legendary British show is now entering a whole new era, and Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor is leading the way for all long-time viewers.

Doctor Who series 14, also known as season 1 of the new rebooted version, will be released this May. If you have been following the updates closely, you already know how many surprises it will bring. Two characters, the Doctor and his companion Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson, will remain unchanged.

The cast that will accompany them on their journey is already remarkable, with Jonathan Groff, Jinkx Monsoon, Lenny Rush, Yasmin Finney and many more set to appear throughout the series. But the casting news doesn't stop there.

Who Will Genesis Lynea Play on Doctor Who?

Genesis Lynea is best known to British audiences as Casualty's Archie Hudson or Silent Witness' Simone Tyler. However, one of the most exciting projects in her filmography for worldwide audiences would be Netflix's Shadow & Bone. Lynea appeared in the series as an Inferni named Natacha.

Shadow & Bone, based on the novel series by Leigh Bardugo, has gathered a large and devoted fan base on the Internet. However, that didn't save the show from being canceled by Netflix after only two seasons due to production costs and general delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The decision, while highly controversial, was final.

However, Doctor Who fans hope that the star will now have a much smoother ride under the umbrella of the BBC and Disney Plus. Having successfully survived two reboots, the Whoniverse has proven to be almost bulletproof. Current showrunner Russell T. Davies welcomed the star to the pages of Doctor Who Magazine:

“To ramp up your anticipation, it's a joy to welcome Genesis Lynea on board. It was a great delight for me to work with Genesis on an ITV series called You and Me in 2023, and so much fun to work with her again, so soon, in a very different role.”

Other than the fact that Lynea's new role will be different from the others, there's not much to tell. The character name, as well as the number of episodes in which the actress will appear, remains a mystery.

Keep an eye out for more exciting Doctor Who news and updates, and stay tuned for the premiere date of series 14.
