Even Julia Schlaepfer Foreshadowed Her Character's Predictable Outcome in 1923

Another hit series from Taylor Sheridan ’s Western collection has wrapped it up, but the second and final season’s ending was far from what most of the fans ever expected to see.

1923’s last episode aired just last night, reuniting the audiences afterwards for a heated discussion, with many of them having nothing else to share but their disappointment in Sheridan’s writing.

However, others claimed they knew things would get into total madness after all, and, surprisingly, it wasn’t just viewers who had such an inner feeling. That said, 1923’s actress has recently revealed she suspected some sort of trouble might have been in her character’s way; she wasn’t wrong though.

In the series’ finale, Schlaepfer’s Alex Dutton meets gruesome death after having frostbitten her hands and feet, eventually also having to go through a surgery to save her yet unborn son.

Some fans were devastated and others outraged while seeing that Alex’s suffering during the entire show served for nothing, but this might have been Taylor Sheridan’s initial plan after all.

In the wake of the second season’s finale release, Julia Schlaepher revealed in an interview with People she had suspected Alex would die ever since the first season.

“Before we started filming season 1, when Taylor [Sheridan] took us to dinner, I literally sat next to him and I was like, 'I'm dying, aren't I?' Like, 'I'm going to die’”, the actress stated, adding that the director had eventually avoided the question, saying he didn’t know what was going to happen to Alex in the finale.

“I think he did have a couple different versions in his head. No one knew. No one knew for sure. I don't even think he did for a long time”, Schlaepfer said.

1923 Fans Are Furious About Alex’s Fate in Season 2 Finale

Taylor Sheridan might be under fire for many things right now, but Alex’s death is where fans think the director “dropped the ball”.

“Alex goes through so much—like, borderline unnecessary levels of suffering—just to basically end up as the future Dutton baby factory. After everything she endured, the fact that she never even got to set foot on the ranch honestly bummed me out way more than I expected. It felt like her whole arc got cut short”, tecphile wrote in a Reddit thread, also noting that Sheridan might have underestimated the importance of Alex’s storyline to many viewers.

Meanwhile, a Redditor nicknamed -Poliwrath said they were fine with the finale, but “I'm so f—king angry about Alex that I'm not going to defend the finale at all”.
