Yet despite being cancelled, the show is an absolute must watch for all fans of horror, thriller and mystery. This one is truly something special.

Is quality the only criterion for a series to be renewed for more seasons? Unfortunately, I think that you've already got the answer. And it's the sad truth of a great TV series that went too soon.

While countless mediocre shows seem to go on endlessly, genuinely exceptional series face the axe despite critical acclaim and devoted audiences.

This is exactly what happened to this absolutely mind-blowing psychological thriller that even got the Stephen King stamp of approval. Yet it wasn't enough to save the show from its inevitable fate.

Evil (2019-2024): Science Meets the Supernatural

I introduce you to smart, scary and tremendously well-acted Evil.

Created by Robert and Michelle King (not related to Stephen King) the series follows an unlikely trio: two skeptics (psychologist and scientist) and a Catholic priest-in-training all investigating supposed supernatural phenomena.

The premise sounds simple, but the show is way smarter and more nuanced than you think it is. It balances between the scary and philosophical pretty intelligently. So intelligently, in fact, that the master of horror, Stephen King himself praised it.

“There’s a show called Evil on Paramount+ that I like. It’s great. It’s funny and it’s witty and it’s very, very sharp,” he said in an interview to PBS News (via Deadline).

Evil Had a Bittersweet Yet Very Suitable Farewell

Despite its premature end, Evil managed to wrap up its story pretty nicely. And that ending actually suits the show as a whole. As one Redditor noted:

“I thought the stunted ending actually played into its own themes and the show's in general, while teeing up the new status quo that another couple seasons would build on if they happen. Evil has constantly avoided playing into audience expectations and always opted for a grounded, character-driven approach that's more interested in subtle reveals than big moments.”

The Legacy Lives On: Where to Watch Evil

While we are all understandably devastated by the cancellation, we can at least take comfort in the fact that Evil gave us 50 episodes of top-tier psychological horror.

Though deep down I still have hopes that it somehow gets renewed, I really need to be realistic here and face the truth. So if you're unfamiliar with Evil, you're in for a real treat. All 4 seasons are available right now on Amazon Video. And all that is left to say is: welcome to the club.
