Feels Like ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Will Have a Twenty One Pilots Song

No, Twenty One Pilots aren’t an official part of Stranger Things’ final season’s soundtrack. Yes, it can still happen — here’s why.
On Thursday, June 12, Twenty One Pilots released their brand new single titled “The Contract”, which is a part of their upcoming album Breach, out in September 2025.
With the single came a music video, and based on the aesthetic, the sound, the message, and the style, fans (me being one of them) have all the reasons to suspect that the band may create a song for Stranger Things season 5.
“Who here thinks that Twenty One Pilots will have a song in the final season of Stranger Things?” said one fan in the comment section for “The Contract” music video. Others are wondering the same thing on Reddit.
Here are three reasons why it’s possible, and one — why not really.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 and ‘Breach’ Release Dates Are Pretty Close
Breach comes out in September 2025 with no exact date scheduled yet. Stranger Things’ fifth and final season is divided in three parts, with the first batch releasing on November 26, the second one on Christmas, and the third one on New Year’s Eve.
That's good timing for the band and the show to create something together so it works well for both.
This Isn’t the First Time Twenty One Pilots Collaborates With Netflix and ‘Stranger Things’
Just last year, Twenty One Pilots made a song “The Line” for another hugely successful Netflix show, Arcane. The song did very well: at the time of writing, it has over 150 million streams on Spotify.
And two years ago, the band collaborated with Stranger Things directly, performing their song “Heathens” mixed with the Stranger Things main theme in Romania.
The Vibe Is Right
The new album is set to conclude a very important storyline in Twenty One Pilots lore. It started with the album Blurryface that introduced Tyler Joseph’s dark alter ego, and then progressed in Trench, Scaled and Icy, and Clancy, where the dystopian story introduced a Bishop-controlled city Dema and a rebellious movement.
The same goes for Stranger Things. The fifth season will mark the end of the story about a dark and mysterious underworld and Vecna, a monster that feeds on others' deepest fears and insecurities.
The band's current aesthetic fits perfectly — the black and red colors and sense of urgency woven into the first song of the new album capture the vibe just right.
But one thing still keeps our hopes down.
‘Stranger Things’ Doesn’t Really Use Modern Music
Since Stranger Things is a show set in the 80s, it strives to create the proper atmosphere, so it only uses music exclusively from the time period.
Instead of modern hits or even covers, it takes once-popular songs, like "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush, and introduces them to a new generation.
The only possible way for ‘Stranger Things’ to use modern music is a time jump in the new season — which may be the case, considering how much its actors have grown.
