It's a criminally overlooked miniseries that tells a heartbreaking story.

Suits LA, the spinoff of the hit show Suits, has not been the triumph its creators had hoped for. Now the show, which has only released its first episode, has a 35% from critics and a 36% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Well, at least, Suits LA reminds us how good the original series was. If you were disappointed by the spinoff, it's time to treat yourself to a really high-quality legal series – Trial by Fire.

This Indian project released on Netflix achieved the almost impossible – unanimity of critics and viewers, who both gave the show 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Is Trial by Fire About?

The series tells the story of a middle-class family from Delhi – Shekhar and Neelam Krishnamoorthy and their two kids. On that summer day, nothing foreshadowed the tragedy – the sister and brother, with the permission of their parents, went to the cinema for a long-awaited movie premiere.

The teenagers never returned home. From that moment on, the lives of Neelam and Shekhar were divided into before and after. They did not divorce because of a terrible blow of fate; on the contrary, they united to seek justice.

Trial by Fire Is Based on a Real-Life Heartbreaking Tragedy

Trial by Fire is based on one of India's worst tragedies and the book Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, who became the series' main characters.

On June 13, 1997, a fire broke out at the Uphaar Cinema in Delhi, India, during a screening of the blockbuster Border, killing 59 people and injuring over 100.

The fire alarm system did not work properly, the building's emergency exits were closed, and people were trapped. The investigation into the incident took nearly 20 years.

The Series Reveals All Sides of the Trial in Just Seven Episodes

The series shows all sides of the trial – those who lost their loved ones, those who helped them, and those who hindered them. We see the culprits of the tragedy, people who did not take the necessary steps in time.

And at the center of it all is a woman, Neelam Krishnamoorthy, who has moved mountains to get justice. She believes that the culprits in her children's deaths are businessmen, the biggest developers in Delhi.

Trial by Fire Is More Than Just a Legal Drama

In the final seventh episode, the creators go back to the beginning and show the fire in the giant Uphaar movie theater. This is done so that viewers can compare the aftermath of the fire, the results of the lengthy trial, and the court's decision.

Trial by Fire is not just a legal drama, it is a look back at a heartbreaking tragedy that leaves viewers wondering if anything has changed.
