The real-life story that will move you to tears with its raw portrayal of a life coming to an end.

There are not so many series that are far from sugarcoating life at its worst moments, and Hulu ’s new one-season drama titled Dying for Sex is definitely one of those shows. At the same time, it managed to land a near-perfect critics score on Rotten Tomatoes — 98%!

Dying for Sex is a rather provocative title for a series, and if you turn it on without knowing whatever the story is, you'll probably be caught off guard, because this show is nothing you would expect from the title.

What Is Dying for Sex About?

Dying for Sex is definitely revolutionary television, focusing on issues that are not usually in the spotlight. The series follows Molly Kochan, played brilliantly by Michelle Williams, a middle-aged woman who is diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer just when she thought she was safe from the disease coming back.

It hits her at the worst possible time, when she was trying to rebuild her sex life with her husband Steve, who was probably too affected by her cancer to see her as a woman he could have sex with.

Then Molly decides to leave Steve and move in with her best friend Nikki. She says she wants to die with her, which means that from now on Nikki will be responsible for Molly and become her caretaker. We will witness their lives becoming one, as Nikki’s whole existence will depend on Molly. And that’s a tough thing to see.

The series explores three main themes: living with cancer, death, and the most unexpected of the trio – sexual self-discovery. Molly broke up with Steve because she wanted to feel desired as a woman, and she started having random sex with men from dating apps.

But that wasn't satisfying enough, so she set a goal: she wanted another man to help her reach a sexual climax. And rescue came from an unexpected place... The man who lives opposite her new apartment, known as Neighbour Guy, whom she previously despised, becomes her sexual partner.

Molly discovers that sexuality is not about being "normal," in fact, no one even knows what normal means. She finds herself happy when she is in a position of control, and Neighbor Guy, played by Rob Delaney, ends up being the one she keeps control of. But in the end, she realizes that control is something the two of them should share, and that's when she achieves her goal.

“I was so excited to see him in the cast, and he was so perfect for this role. He is convincing as the gross, sloppy, horny guy who wants to be belittled and harmed, and then he pivots to such kindness and generosity and vulnerability. And he's such a funny actor. I really wanted to see him return after he gives her that orgasm, but I understand why it was about Molly and Nikki (and Gail) for the final episode,” Redditor Humble_Message_6665 said.

“This show just destroyed me. I love how real it is. The writing and acting is so phenomenal; all these interactions between characters, each scene, was so realistic and raw. Also, as a hospice caregiver, this was the most realistic depiction of hospice I have seen yet in film,” Redditor zippitydoodadae said.
