‘Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner Just Gave ‘Harry Potter’ Child Actors a Brutal Reality Check

Harry Potter’s young leads are already big stars before HBO’s release of the first season, but they shouldn’t follow the suit of Game of Thrones’ child actors.
The movie industry might seem like a fairytale to many, but it’s not always about sunshine, rainbows and worldwide fame, sometimes being mostly about a never-ending wave of hatred towards an actor.
This has an especially dramatic toll on child actors, with Harry Potter’s young stars being one of the latest examples of the media scrutiny two years before the first season of the show is expected to be released.
However, it’s not like the same has never been done to the young actors in previous big TV hits, and Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner has recently brought up the issue again.
Sophie Turner Says Social Media Attention “Almost Destroyed” Her During ‘Game of Thrones’ Filming
The actress, who starred in the epic series as Sansa Stark at the age of 13, was one of many Game of Thrones figures who was haunted by all kinds of controversies and scrutinies, though it didn’t start at once back then.
As Turner admitted recently, social media wasn’t a thing that big back when Game of Thrones was filming its seasons 1 and 2, so she had some time to enjoy being on set of one of the greatest TV series in history, and that still changed with time.
“It had such a profound impact on my mental health, like more than I could tell you. It almost destroyed me on numerous occasions”, the actress told Flaunt magazine.
She also added that she kinda feels sorry for Harry Potter’s young leading trio who are yet to experience what it’s like being one of the most popular people at such a young age.
“I look at the kids who are about to be in the new ‘Harry Potter’ and I just want to give them a hug and say, ‘Look, it’s going to be okay but don’t go anywhere near [social media]”, Turner said, encouraging Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout to live their life as if nothing like Harry Potter is happening.
‘Harry Potter’ Young Actors Won’t Miss School Classes During Filming
Since HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter adaptation will take around a decade to wrap, it would be weird to make everyone on set forget about what their life is actually about.
That's the exact reason why Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the home studio for all Harry Potter-related projects, made sure the future series’ young stars can continue with their studies not far from the set.
As BBC reported several months back, the studio built a temporary school that “will operate on weekdays between 5:30am and 8:30pm so young actors can fit in their actual studies between night shoots, reshoots and location filming”.
Harry Potter’s first season is now slated for a 2027 release.
