Gritty UK Crime Drama Called ‘The Best in Years’ Heads to Netflix In 2 Weeks

Is Kin (2021) Worth Watching?
Co-created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, this Irish TV show follows a fictional Dublin family caught up in a gang war. The show was first released locally in Ireland in 2021, but was then bought by BBC One to air for the larger British audience. Now, starting May 1, Kin will be available to international viewers on Netflix.
One of the show's best assets is its cast. Marvel fans will be delighted to see Charlie Cox, who was once Daredevil and has now returned, as Michael Kinsella, also known as The Magician to other gang members, and the leaders of two rival families, Frank Kinsella and Eamon Cunningham, portrayed by Aidan Gillen and Ciarán Hinds.
While many fans believe that the series was inspired by the real-life Irish Kinahan Organized Crime Group (KOCG), also known as the Kinahan Cartel, and its ongoing feud with the Hutch Gang, the show's creators have denied this. But that doesn't mean the plot is any less stunning than the real events that took place.
With an almost perfect 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Kin is praised by both critics and audiences. The first season received the highest score of 100%, while the second season was slightly less impressive at 88%. Both seasons are praised for the perfect on-screen chemistry between the characters and the gradual build-up of suspense.
Although some critics have said that the show has become repetitive and slightly unoriginal in its second year, others have gone as far as to call Kin 'the best Irish drama series in years'.
