The rise of a media empire that changed everything.

Following the success of 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle has chosen his next project — and it is quite a shift in subject matter. He will direct Ink, a film about Rupert Murdoch’s early years in Britain and the creation of his tabloid empire.

Guy Pearce is set to play Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell takes on Larry Lamb, the editor who reinvented The Sun in 1969. Adapted by James Graham from his acclaimed play, the film promises a sharp look at the birth of modern tabloid culture.

From Stage to Screen

Graham’s play was praised for its wit and bite on both the West End and Broadway, so it’s no surprise Boyle wants to bring that same electricity to the screen. And it makes sense: he has always been drawn to outsiders and disruptors, and Murdoch fits that mould in his own controversial way.

With Pearce fresh from The Brutalist and O’Connell returning after 28 Years Later, the casting feels spot-on.

Shooting begins in October, making clear that Boyle is more interested in tabloid wars than zombies right now. And who could blame him? Isn’t media power every bit as terrifying as a horror movie?
