Yes, The Gentlemen is great but it’s time to go back to the classics.

Guy Ritchie is deservedly called one of the founders of the genre of black crime comedies, a master of sparkling dialogues and even the ruler of the criminal world of London.

Ritchie Is the Undisputed Leader of the Crime Genre

Ritchie is a talented self-taught director who never spent a day in film school. He first made music videos and commercials, then saved up to make his first short film. He impressed the singer Sting so much that he even agreed to play in the first full-length film of the aspiring director.

After more than a twenty-year journey – from the movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to the recent series The Gentlemen – Guy Ritchie has convinced viewers of one thing: he has not lost his creative reputation as the main director of the crime genre.

A master of clip-editing and overlapping plots, the director successfully and quickly fit into the criminal genre – for this, he needed to shoot only two films: already mentioned Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and a few years later, Snatch.

Snatch Is a Rare Gem of Gangster Cinema

Snatch has gone on to become a cult classic, as evidenced by its impressive 93% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a major influence on the crime comedy genre. In his second feature film, Ritchie continued his practice of creating twisted gangster plots, with tons of black humor and obscene dialogue.

The main advantage of Snatch, however, lies in the kaleidoscope of colorful characters: from the gypsy Mickey to the robber Franky Four Fingers, from the cunning Russian Boris the Blade to the crime boss Brick Top, from the thug Bullet-Tooth Tony to the imperturbable Englishman with the funny name Turkish.

The whole gypsy boxer thing in Snatch is the best thing Guy Ritchie has ever written and directed. Instead of classic boxing, we get its most brutal incarnation – bare-knuckle boxing, the gloveless fights that have long been popular in the UK and are now gaining popularity as a bloodier and more accessible alternative to mixed martial arts.

Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Stephen Graham making his big screen debut, and comedic London actor Alan Ford as the most terrifying and realistic villain in British crime films –Snatch has everything it takes to tell a complete, original and incredibly suspenseful criminal story.

Snatch is Now Available on Prime Video

So if you've watched the recent release of The Gentlemen, but still haven't seen the best film from one of the most prominent directors in the crime genre, it's time to fill that void – Snatch is available on Prime Video on April 1.
