In 1997 J.K Rowling released a series of books that took society by storm. Stories of witches and wizards in Harry Potter captivated readers all over the world from the start and still do today.

It is easy to imagine the excitement of Harry Potter fans upon hearing the news that the books were being made into films. Unsurprisingly the films were huge successes, still holding a spot as one of the highest-grossing movie franchises of all time.

It is not a simple task for movie directors to capture the essence of the characters and bring descriptions and scenes to life as they are in the book, if not better. In the case of Harry Potter, although the films received high praise, fans have pointed out a few things that they feel don't make sense or are just completely wrong when compared to the books.

Hermione saying lines belonging to Ron in the books

Harry Potter Fans Still Asking 'How Did This Actor Get Cast?!'

To start, Ron and Hermione are both close friends of the Harry Potter. Fans noticed many instances where Hermione was saying lines that belonged to Ron in the books. This may not seem to be a big deal, but the problem was that in saying his lines, elements of his character's intelligence and wit were taken away, and he was made to seem more like a clumsy sidekick to Harry whilst Hermione was made to look more important and smart.

One of the prime examples of Hermione "stealing" lines from Ron is the scene from Prisoner of Azkaban. In the book, the famous line, "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" is delivered by a wounded Ron. Fans felt that "giving" this moment to Hermione was a huge injustice to Ron's character.

Voldemort's rushed backstory

Next, the Half-Blood Prince rushes through the backstory of one of the most important characters and the biggest villain in the stories, Voldemort. After the book went into such important and relevant detail on his backstory, fans were shocked that the movie skipped most of it, giving the scene only about a minute. This would have been less upsetting to fans if it weren't so obvious that that scene was cut short to give more time to scenes in the movie that were completely irrelevant.

Completely different ending to the most important scene

In the final movie, Deathly Hallows Part 2, Voldemort along with one of his loyal followers, Bellatrix are ultimately defeated, with Voldemort dissolving into nothingness and Bellatrix being obliterated, a truly dramatic end. The ending in the book was completely different, intending to remind readers that they are still human, still mortal after everything. The movies immortalized them by making them seem otherworldly, all for cinematic effect and this will never sit right with fans who have read the books.

Harry Potter fans who have not read the books will probably never feel the impact of these poor choices made by the directors, whilst those who have lived the stories through the books will always feel some bitterness towards the creative choices of the people in charge.
