Harry Potter’s Filch Played One of Game of Thrones’ Most Hated Villains: Did You Notice?

David Bradley was a pretty big antagonist in the Harry Potter movie series, but in Game of Thrones he was just pure evil — here’s why the actor’s name is forever tied to one of the show’s most gruesome scenes.
Harry Potter ’s film series introduced a bunch of ambitious villains back in the day, but some of those still couldn’t compare to what David Bradley’s Argus Filch made Hogwarts students go through.
Soon after completing the franchise, the actor moved on to starring in yet another big project, this time nothing less than HBO’s Game of Thrones — and this is where his list of big screen villains went further.
Even though Bradley’s character wasn’t present that much during the show’s run of 8 seasons, he still didn’t miss a chance to become the centre of one scene that still gives Game of Thrones’ fans nightmares.
David Bradley’s Role as Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, Explained
In Game of Thrones’ Westeros, Walder Frey is known as the head of House Frey and a former ally to House Tully who he happened to betray.
Considered one of the most despicable characters to ever appear in George Martin ’s lore, Walder is extremely self-centred, arrogant and callous even when it comes to his own children or his young wife.
At some point, however, Walder makes an agreement with Catelyn Stark who, alongside her son Robb, flees Winterfell after Ned Stark’s execution.
In order to be allowed to cross the Freys’ lands and get some help from House Frey’s troops, Catelyn agrees to fulfil Walder’s requirements, which include Robb’s marriage to one of Walder’s daughters or granddaughters, as well as Arya’s marriage to his son Waldron.
Walder Frey Is the One to Instigate the Infamous Red Wedding
After Robb Stark breaks his oath and marries Talisa instead of someone from the Freys, Walder lures the Starks into his daughter Roslin’s wedding celebration and afterwards seals all the doors, ordering his soldiers to slaughter everyone around, including Robb and Catelyn.
Walder’s orchestration of Game of Thrones’ most brutal sequence ever is added up by Bradley’s strong performance, making the character’s finale all the more satisfying when Arya Stark kills him, avenging her mother and brother’s death.
