House of the Dragon Showrunner Says ‘a Big Feature in the Book’ Is Finally Coming in Season 3

The show’s upcoming next instalment has recently confirmed its production start.
Things are about to go bigger in House of the Dragon ’s season 3 which, according to its showrunner Ryan Condal, will finally introduce some of the plot twists fans have been waiting for way longer than they should have.
The hit series, which is based upon George Martin ’s prequel book Fire and Blood, received waves of severe backlash when the second season premiered back in 2024, with fans and even Martin himself slamming the show for not following the original book’s narrative and deliberately prolonging the imminent events.
Since then, House of the Dragon might have lost a significant part of its audience’s trust, but the show’s third season is ready to make it up to fans, now officially bringing a long-overdue character to the screen.
Ryan Condal Teases Prince Daeron’s Big Role in House of the Dragon Season 3
In George Martin’s book, the return of Prince Daeron, the youngest son of King Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, to King’s Landing signals an officially declared war between the Blacks and the Greens, which is great news for everyone who complained about House of the Dragon’s dull season 2.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series’ showrunner Ryan Condal revealed Daeron’s arrival in the show had been carefully planned, which is why the character hasn’t been mentioned in any previous installments so far.
“I won't say much more, but I will say that the fact that Daeron has not featured in the world of his family, at least his immediate nuclear family, is sort of the point I think. The thing that interested us, if not the most, about his character is who he is now as a young man”, Condall added.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Is in Production With New Familiar Faces in the Cast
While it’s not clear yet who will portray Prince Daeron in the series’ upcoming season, House of the Dragon’s cast has recently had some other notable casting updates, just several days before the next instalment’s production started.
New episodes will also introduce at least two more important figures, with those being Lord Ormund Hightower, Queen Alicent’s cousin portrayed by War & Peace star James Norton, and Ser Roderick Dustin, leader of the Winter Wolves whose role went to Sons of Anarchy’s Tommy Flanagan.
HBO is yet to announce the release date for House of the Dragon’s season 3 which is currently expected to arrive on Max sometime in 2026.
