Most fans believe that Lumon is trying to resurrect Kier, but maybe he needs something else.

The topic of grief became the leitmotif of Severance. Presumably, while taming the tempers, Kier Eagan dreamed of cleansing the world of grief and loss, and dedicated his life to the search for immortality and ways to reincarnate.

It is believed that Lumon has found a specific path to immortality by turning Kier's teachings into a database, an ideal artificial intelligence program. Also, by turning Kier into code, his spirit and the goals of the corporation can be implanted directly into the brains of workers through chips.

But what if Kier does not need to be resurrected because he is already alive?

Jame Eagan Can Only Be a Physical Shell, And Helena Is Next

What if Ms. Casey has been cloned and her consciousness transferred to a new body? The encounter between Jame Eagan and his daughter Helena subtly hints at this. The aging and ill Jame talks about his "revolving," which does not refer to his retirement as CEO of Lumon, but to the process of transferring consciousness into another body.

He also gives his daughter an odd compliment: "You look so beautiful. Like a movie." However, "film" in this context could mean the material used to record information.

Reddit user That-SoCal-Guy suggests that Helly is being trained to be the carrier of her dying father's consciousness, or more specifically, the consciousness of Kier, who is in Jame's body.

James Eagan Acts and Talks the Old-Fashioned Way

There are several details that suggest that Jame is Kier. First, he uses outdated words, and in particular, as fans have noted, the word ''fetid,'' which was actively used in the mid-19th century – Kier was born in 1841.

In addition, the man looks extremely weak and as if he has no control over his own body and facial expressions. Perhaps Jame and the other Lumon CEOs whose statues stand in The Perpetuity Wing are not very suitable vessels for him.

This is probably why Kier/Jame spends most of his time sleeping or frozen – he told Helena that when he found out that Helly tried to commit suicide, he cried in his bed. Why would the writers mention where exactly the man cried if they weren't hinting at where he spends most of his time?

The Chip's Capabilities May Be Much Broader Than We Thought

The chip's program can probably record consciousness and memories, just as reality is recorded on film.

If the Lumon have developed a technology that can split memories, they may be able to learn how to implant and transfer a personality into another physical shell. This is also hinted at in the show's new opening credits, which show several versions of Mark.
