Here’s another show to add to your next Christmas watchlist.

Summary:

  • The Mandalorian is a Disney Plus television series within the Star Wars franchise.
  • The show focuses on the Mandalorian, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, who goes on the run to protect little Grogu from Imperial forces.
  • Some fans feel the show has too many similarities to the most famous biblical Christmas story.

There is one thing that the majority of people do on Christmas, no matter how and even if they celebrate it at all. They gather in the comfort of their homes around a television and watch something that is considered classic for the occasion.

From all the Christmas specials on your favorite TV shows to classic movies like Home Alone, Elf, or The Christmas Carol, no matter how great and heartwarming the stories are, they can get repetitive and boring. Luckily, there's always something fresh, new, and totally surprising to add to the list.

Disney Plus' The Mandalorian may be one of the most unexpected, yet oddly fitting, additions to consider for Christmas 2024.

Star Wars Christmas Themed TV Show

There's a whole list of clues that point to The Mandalorian being a Christmas show, no matter how far-fetched it may seem. Redditor CardboardCas suggested this idea for others to consider, and the thread got a lot of traction, with many people agreeing with the idea:

“A TV series about a baby that the empire wants to kill. Who has powers. Who will likely one day be someone significant. Who has caught the attention of Ancient Orders. A show which features animal herders and people dressed in desert attire.”

Considering the fact that Christmas was mentioned in the show itself, it is also safe to assume that at least part of it happens during the holiday season. While it’s not much, it certainly adds some celebratory feeling to the otherwise completely usual Space Western.

Not only that, but the showrunner behind the show, Jon Favreau, admitted to taking some inspiration from the Star Wars Christmas special. While it wasn't the most popular piece among fans, the willingness to include as many parts of the franchise as possible is the most admirable.

The Mandalorian is scheduled to resume filming in early 2024, with no specific release date for season 4. Make sure to stay tuned so you do not miss any of the news and behind-the-scenes updates from the set. In the meantime, all three seasons of the show are now available for streaming on Disney Plus.
