It would seem that a show that has a "Dragon" in its title would not ignore dragon scenes like that, but here we are.

It's been several months after House of the Dragon first season finale, but fans are still mourning one scene that never made it to the final cut: King Aegon II Targaryen and his dragon Sunfyre during his coronation.

Although it's not clear whether such a scene was even planned, fans believe it is a huge missed opportunity that was for some reason traded for Rhaenys storming from beneath the ground on her dragon Meleys.

However, for Aegon to show off Sunfyre, who is known to be the most beautiful dragon ever, would seem both logical and impressive, fans believe.

"We would have had Aegon II, King of the 7 kingdoms, holding Blackfyre on the most beautiful dragon ever, in front of Kingslanding whole population. You can't tell me that it wouldn't be a great scene," Redditor roronoaclemz said.

Another fan on Twitter noted that there was even a way to provide screen time for both Sunfyre and Meleys, and it would even make sense story-wise.

"I think it would have been cool to see Aegon mount Sunfyre and then, just as he perches on the stairs of the Dragonpit, here comes Meleys from below (up the ramp, not killing as many peasants), roaring in his face, thwarting his flight. This way we get Rhaenys' moment of Zen too," said CarolynNYC.

Moreover, the presence of Sunfyre would have improved the Meleys entrance and spared the showrunners from accusations of "fan service" by including the Red Queen into the sequence. The scene was heavily criticized over the number of peasants that Meleys must have killed by her entrance and Rhaenys' reluctance to kill the Greens and thus prevent the Targaryen civil war.

However, we will surely see more of Aegon's dragon in season 2, which is due to start filming in March. HBO is yet to schedule the premiere date.
