Superman’s director is a huge fan of Tarantino’s classics — here’s what movie James Gunn thinks is just perfect.

DC’s new hope James Gunn might be celebrating his Superman’s immense success in the box office across the world, but no superhero epic story still beats Quentin Tarantino’s often forgotten movie.

Having kicked it off with Reservoir Dogs in 1992, Tarantino went on to direct his probably biggest hit Pulp Fiction just a couple of years later, continuing with the Uma Thurman-led two-part action thriller Kill Bill.

None of these, however, gets close to James Gunn’s personal favorite among Tarantino’s movies — which he also considers the director’s best.

James Gunn Says Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Jackie Brown’ Is “Perfect”

The superhero movie director isn’t a stranger to high-rated criminal dramas as well, and, surprisingly, everyone’s favorite Pulp Fiction isn’t any better for James Gunn than 1997’s Jackie Brown.

“Jackie Brown is the best Quentin Tarantino film. At least, it's my favorite film. I don't know if there are 'bests' of anything, but it's my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. I watch it at least once a year, and really love this movie quite a lot. It's perfect”, Superman’s director shared with Konbini upon promoting his new superhero flick recently.

Gunn continued, saying that Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction also deserves all praise possible, even though there are still some parts of the movie that he just can’t get.

Jackie Brown, however, has no such thing and does an incredible job structuring its own narrative in a way that helps an ordinary viewer grasp the idea.

The David Corenswet-led superhero action movie flew high in the box office too after its worldwide release on July 11, grossing $125 million during the opening weekend and $220 million five days after the premiere.

Superman’s debut is currently the third-largest after A Minecraft Movie’s $162 million and Lilo & Stitch’s $146 million, though Gunn’s movie is yet to defeat its impressive budget of $225 million.

“This is an outstanding domestic opening. If there’s any softness here, it’s overseas. Superman has always been identified as an American character, and in some parts of the world, America is currently not enjoying its greatest popularity”, the FranchiseRe movie consulting firm’s boss David A. Gross said about Superman’s extremely successful start in a statement shared by Variety.

Superman is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
