Netflix’s animated anthology Love, Death + Robots returned to screens on May 15 with the fourth season after a 3-year hiatus. How many years do we have to wait for a new season and is it even on the table?

Love, Death + Robots: Volume 4 is already available on Netflix, consisting of 10 episodes. The new chapter of the animated dystopia has received very mixed reviews: on Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave it a perfect 100%, but the audience begs to differ with its merciless 42% score.

With opinions so radically different, Love, Death + Robots renewal status only gets more interesting.

Has ‘Love, Death + Robots’ Been Greenlit for Season 5?

Short answer: no, Netflix is yet to clarify whether Love, Death + Robots will return with season 5 or get canceled.

However, the series’ popularity and critical acclaim suggest that a new season is likely. The gap between previous seasons has ranged from one to three years. If the pattern holds, season 5 could arrive sometime in early 2026 or 2027.

The question is whether we really need it or if we have a formerly good project that needs to know when to stop.

What’s Wrong With ‘Love, Death + Robots’ Season 4?

Many fans are already calling the new season “the biggest disappointment” of the franchise yet: according to the negative reviews, Volume F*** lacks the brilliant storytelling and twists that defined Love, Death + Robots before.

But some argue that this season is still strong, showcasing the heights that animated stories can reach — even if failing to reach the bar set by earlier chapters.

“The latest volume doesn’t quite hit the same heights [as previous seasons], nor does it have a singular standout episode like “The Very Pulse of the Machine,” but it’s still a strong offering,” wrote Andrew Webster of The Verge.

Fans, however, call the new season “a painted shell, but hollow.” Given the long hiatus between seasons 3 and 4, viewers hoped for something more than a Red Hot Chili Peppers music video or a copycat of Volume 1’s “Beyond the Aquila Rift” (yes, “Spider Rose”, looking right at you).

Still, just one mediocre season shouldn’t (and, at the time of writing, doesn’t) mean cancellation for Love, Death + Robots. I mean, look at Black Mirror.
