Meredith Grey and Alex Karev have been a part of Grey's Anatomy since the very first episode. Both characters are strong fan favorites on their own, but what fans love even more about the pair is the friendship they share.

When Christina Yang left to further her career in Switzerland, it left Meredith with a seemingly unfillable void. Up until the 10th season of the show, Christina and Meredith had shared an unbreakable bond that nobody could understand or compete with.

After Meredith loses her "person" no one could anticipate that this would lead to an even stronger friendship and Meredith finding a new "person".

Alex and Meredith were already close friends at this point in the series, and he took it upon himself to keep an eye on her after Christina's departure.

Grey's Anatomy Ruined Alex's Entire Character Journey in Just One Episode

Although the two were initially quite different, with Alex being a bit of a jerk and Meredith being dark and emotionally unavailable to those around her, they seemed to understand each other on a deeper level having known each other from the very beginning.

One of the most heartwarming genuine moments between the two came from a moment in season 13 where Alex was potentially facing jail time for brutally assaulting DeLuca after walking in on a scene between him and Jo, who was drunk and practically unconscious.

He acted impulsively without listening to DeLuca. Alex was arrested and charged with assault and whilst everyone else had turned against him, Meredith didn't hesitate to stand by his side following the backlash of his actions, and his last wish was to spend time with her and her family as much as he could.

Before facing prison, Alex tells Meredith "I want Waffle Sundays." Out of everyone in his life, Alex chose to spend what may have been his final weeks of freedom having waffles every Sunday with Meredith.

This shows how close they are and how much he considered her to be his family. Not only was he Meredith's person, but it showed that Meredith was also his person.

It's a Tight Race, But [Spoiler] Emerges as the Worst Grey's Anatomy Character

Among many other moments between the two during Grey's Anatomy, this was one of the most wholesome and heartwarming for fans. It's scenes like these that make it easy to understand how deep their friendship goes and one that most people can only dream of.
