The rising scream princess is on her way to become queen.

Summary:

  • Jenna Ortega, starring in Wednesday, X and Scream VI, has received the status of the new horror star, continuing her collaboration with Tim Burton.
  • She will also play in the sequel of his iconic 1980’s movie, Beetlejuice, with Michael Keaton returning to his role of the “bio-exorcist”.
  • The actor called Ortega “really special”, expressing his admiration for her.

Jenna Ortega, the rising Hollywood star and Tim Burton’s new muse, who gained much popularity in 2022, starring in the master’s coming-of-age horror comedy Wednesday, is now greatly associated with the genre of horror, as her filmography is yet topped by the performances in the slasher X and the sequel of the Scream franchise, Scream VI.

The new scream queen has gained so much recognition she was entrusted to star in the sequel of one of the most iconic horror films of the previous century, Beetlejuice.

Since 1988, Tim Burton’s fantasy comedy horror movie, showcasing a recently deceased couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), who is trying to scare the hell out their home’s new residents with the help of a nasty and cunning exorcist, Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton), has acquired the status of a classical nostalgic horror.

The sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is going to feature the acclaimed Michael Keaton, who reprised the same role 35 years later and now shared screen with Ortega, who is going to portray the onscreen daughter of Winona Ryder’s character, a teenage girl, who lived in the house in the first movie (and will return in the sequel).

Keaton was quite impressed by the young actress’ work on the set, and shared in this connection his glowing praise with her talent in a recent interview with ET.

“She's got the tone. She showed up and just immediately knew what the tone was and just slipped in like she does every day. She's really special,” stated the actor.

This promising remark from one of the biggest giants of today’s industry makes Tim Burton’s fans look for his next obscure movie much more, as it can be considered that Ortega will fit its enchanting and mysterious atmosphere with great ease.

This casting decision is also supported by the external similarity of the Wednesday actress and her future onscreen mother, Ryder, who had quite the same career path in her 20s too, see, for example, her roles in Edward Scissorhands and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Thus, Ortega has now all chances to become the new princess of horror and then to grasp other various genres, just as her more experienced accoladed colleague.

While the theatrical release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled on September 6, 2024, all that is left for us is to wait for other juicy commentaries and updates and to rewatch the first brilliant movie, which is available on Netflix and Prime.
