The show fell victim to this year’s tribulations.

Summary:

  • Minx was a TV series following the story of the creation of the first women's erotic magazine.
  • Although it premiered on HBO and was greenlit for season 2, it was later canceled and picked up by Starz.
  • The show's star, Jake Johnson, believes the strike restrictions were the final nail in Minx's coffin.

It's no secret that 2023 was a year of uncertainty for many of the teams behind fan-favorite shows.

With both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions joining forces in simultaneous strikes to bring about change for the industry's creative professionals, all of the major networks had to reschedule their productions and rethink the course they're going to take moving forward.

Unfortunately, this affected the lineup of the upcoming series in a way that not so many viewers can get behind. Several shows were officially canceled, while others simply didn't get the renewals viewers were hoping for.

Starz's Minx is now stuck in limbo, with the network remaining silent on the show's potential fate. Series star Jake Johnson, however, doesn't hold out much hope for a green light at this point.

Why Minx Wasn’t Renewed For Season 3

Minx Season 2 premiered on July 21, 2023 and ended in September. Since then, the future of the show has remained unclear, causing much concern for fans who enjoyed the lighthearted story of Joyce Prigger's success.

Jake Johnson, who played Doug Renetti on the show, shared his thoughts on the possibility of Minx returning to Starz, or any other network for that matter, in an interview with Deadline:

“By evidence of me cutting my hair short, I don’t [expect a renewal]. I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show]. Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”

Minx isn't the only show to fall victim to this year's industry changes. However, unlike League of Their Own and Shadow and Bone, both of which were beloved by fans but cancelled, it still has a chance to resurface with a brilliant Season 3 that would give everyone some much-needed closure.

Whether you share Johnson's view of where the show is headed or prefer to hold out hope for good news, stay tuned for Starz's final verdict on Minx's future.
