Debuting at Toronto Film Festival.

Just spotted the first still from Rental Family, a new comedy coming out next year. Searchlight Pictures dropped the news, and it’s set to hit cinemas on 21st November 2026 — quite a wait, I know! Brendan Fraser stars in the film, which is fantastic news — he’s been brilliant in everything from The Whale to The Mummy.

The story sounds pretty charming: Fraser plays an actor living and working in Tokyo who’s struggling financially. To make ends meet, he agrees to star in a commercial for a “rental family” — basically pretending to be an ordinary American family.

But things get interesting when he meets some rather unusual characters and realises what “family” really means.

The film is directed by Hikari, who previously made 37 Seconds. It’ll have its debut this fall at the Toronto Film Festival, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates.
