Mission Impossible’s Saddest Death So Far May Be Rebecca Ferguson’s Fault
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has just premiered and shocked the fans of the saga to the core with an unexpected twist.

In Tom Cruise’s penultimate film as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Rebecca Ferguson returns as former MI6 agent Ilsa Faust. She made her debut in the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise and instantly became one of the franchise’s most popular characters.
The movie follows Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, as he embarks on a battle against the Entity, an AI that has grown too powerful to control (very timely, don’t you think?). He is then confronted with a former friend and ally, Gabriel, who has turned to the dark side, and he is the one who kills Ilsa in the end.
Ilsa has been Ethan’s loyal ally for years, and no one expected such a major character to die so soon and so out of the blue. Although, the way that the marketing campaign for the latest movie targeted the new addition to the team in the form of Grace, portrayed by Hayley Atwell, didn’t look promising for Ilsa’s storyline from the start.
However, fans are not ready to say goodbye to such an iconic character, hence, they have cooked up a theory that actually makes sense. In the film, Ilsa dies extremely randomly, and it doesn’t even feel like a proper goodbye.
Some Reddit users seem to think that either Rebecca Ferguson got tired of playing Ilsa or something drove a wedge between her and the director, making Christopher McQuarrie kill the character off so suddenly.
The filmmaker reportedly wanted to get rid of Jeremy Renner ’s William Brandt in the sixth movie in the same way, but ultimately decided to just write him off instead. What would make Rebecca Ferguson say goodbye to Ilsa Faust?
It could be scheduling conflicts with Silo, a hit sci-fi drama that just got renewed for season 2 where Ferguson is part of the main cast. Or it could be something else entirely. Or Ilsa’s death could be a trick altogether. We’ll have to wait and see if Ilsa miraculously comes back to life in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
Some fans seem to think that this is an option, but that’s a subject for another article.
