What, Modern Family has a bad dad? Oh yes it does, and you know him very well.

Unlike Phil Dunphy or even Jay Pritchett, this guy was never a perfect dad on Modern Family — although he struggled to portray himself as such. And yes, we're talking about Javier Delgado, the father of Gloria's son, Manny.

Oh how we love those "superhero" dads who only appear on weekends... once a month. As we all remember, it was no big deal for Xavier to simply cancel on Manny last minute, leaving him sitting outside and waiting for his father who is clearly too busy for him.

Every time Javier was there for Manny, he tried to over-compensate for weeks of absence, and we were supposed to act like it was nothing. However, Modern Family fans know who Javier is. And still, they're not too mad at him — for one simple reason.

On Modern Family, Javier had one job — to show Jay Pritchett what kind of father is not something Manny needs. Clearly, Javier was an awful father, but he helped Jay become better and be just the father figure Manny needed while his "superhero" dad was somewhere out there.

This is exactly why Modern Family fans are not hating on Javier. After all, he was pretty fun to be around — when he himself was around, of course.

"He did genuinely come off as wanting to make amends despite still not respecting or understanding what it means to be one. Not that he was ever a threat because Jay is on the opposite end of the dad quality spectrum from him," Redditor CoolioDurulio noted.

At first, some fans disliked how Gloria used to idolize her ex-husband — "Javier this, Javier that," — but in the end, Javier helped us all realize how good of a father Jay was.

If you feel like binge-watching Modern Family all over again, feel free to do so on Hulu Plus or NBC.
