Move Over, Caramel: Why Argentinian Dulce de Leche is the Only Dessert Sauce You’ll Ever Need
Just five ingredients to go with, and you’re guaranteed to have the most delicious paste to fill other desserts with.
If you’ve been feeling like you’ve already tried all the best desserts in local bakeries, it’s probably time to turn to sweet treats that are popular in other countries. One of the best choices in this case might be dulce de leche which is extremely popular in Latin America, especially in Argentina where they use this sweet paste as a filling for pies and cookies or as a stand-alone dessert eaten with a spoon.
All you need is five simplest ingredients, so make sure you keep this recipe close to have the most authentic Argentinian dessert at home.
Ingredients: 1 liter of milk, 150 g of sugar, 2 tablespoons of molasses, 0.5 teaspoon of baking soda, 0.3 teaspoon of salt.
Pour the milk into a large pot (5–6 liters). Add the sugar and the molasses. Then add the salt and baking soda.
Bring to a boil over high heat. It’s important not to let the foam get away!
Once it comes to a boil, pour it into a thick-walled Teflon saucepan. Now reduce the heat to low and simmer the milk, stirring occasionally.
After about an hour, add the vanilla extract and mix well.
Strain the sauce through a sieve.
Let it cool, stirring occasionally, and pour into a jar. Dulce de leche can be stored in the fridge for up to a month.
