NCIS: Hawai’i is Canceled, But Fans Want Another NCIS Show Axed Instead
We are not going to see Season 4 of what the fans are calling the best NCIS show ever.
The police procedural NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service has been running for 21 seasons, and its new viewers may not even suspect that this show is an offshoot of the previous multi-season television hit JAG, which ran from 1995 to 2005.
NCIS, in turn, spawned several other crime shows: NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS: Sydney. New Orleans and Los Angeles lasted long seven and fourteen seasons respectively, and now it was Hawaii's turn – the show was canceled after its third season.
What is NCIS: Hawai’i About?
NCIS: Hawai’i follows the first female Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS Hawai’i Field Office, Jane Tennant, and her team as they oversee the island's security while investigating high-stakes crimes involving the military and national security.
Tennant herself is not only the first female chief of NCIS, overseeing four dozen agents, but also a divorced mother caring for two children, fulfilling her official duty, and trying to live a normal life at the same time.
NCIS: Hawai’i Didn’t Deserve to Be Canceled So Soon, According to Fans
The cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i was a real surprise for fans – many fans called it the best show in the NCIS universe, which certainly did not deserve to have the shortest fate of all the installments. Moreover, the decision to cancel the show was made almost immediately after the start of the third season, which meant that the writers had to rewrite the season finale mid-production.
“I liked NCIS: Hawai’i. I’d have preferred it if they had canceled NCIS: Sydney instead,” Reddit user Phantom_Ganon wrote.
CBS didn't give an exact reason for the cancellation, but apparently the ratings weren't high enough to keep the show on the air, although the third season averaged 7.8 million viewers, which is quite decent.
Viewers believe that NCIS: Sydney only did well on the air because it was released as a replacement programming during the actors' and writers' strike and thus attracted more viewers than it should have. Sydney really does seem like the little brother of the rest of the NCIS shows – it has a smaller budget, fewer main characters, and fewer episodes per season.
Anyway, the decision has already been made and we definitely won't see the fourth season of NCIS: Hawai’i.
