New Korean Zombie Horror With Blackpink Star & 93% on RT Just Blew up Prime Video Top 5

The best way to test a relationship is... a zombie apocalypse.
The Korean wave is not just K-pop and K-dramas, Koreans have also excelled at creating spectacular zombie horror projects that top the box office and streaming sites. They often represent a multi-genre mix of horror, post-apocalyptic, family drama and even comedy.
The latest hit on Prime Video comes from just such a category. Unlike Train to Busan, Newtopia is not a serious apocalypse series, but a black comedy reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead.
Only with its own, Korean flavor: the actors overreact, scream, and fall on the ground, try to burn zombies with a spray can and a lighter, and all this to upbeat music.
What Is Newtopia About?
Soldier Lee Jae-yoon (played by Park Jeong-min), serves in an air defense unit located on the upper floors and roof of a skyscraper in the center of Seoul.
In his dream, he has already served and runs to his girlfriend Kang Young-ju (played by Jisoo). In reality, however, he still has one and a half years to serve, so the dream is interrupted and Jae-yoon is sent on duty, during which he tries to call his girlfriend.
The couple argues and after a few days of trying to have a normal conversation, Young-ju suggests that they take a break from their relationship and goes to see the man in person to discuss everything. It seems that their love is hanging by a thread, but at that moment a real zombie apocalypse begins.
Newtopia Is a Wild Mix of Zombie Horror and Romance
Newtopia is a dark comedy with a lot of aggressive zombies and romance.
Jae-yoon is trapped in a skyscraper and together with his colleagues he tries to understand what is happening and to fight off the zombies, using such indispensable means against the undead as fast legs and closed doors.
At the same time, Young-ju is trying to survive on the streets of Seoul, which are filled with zombies.
Despite Its Comedy Genre, Newtopia Is Full of Gore and Violence
It should be noted that despite the comedy genre, the show contains a lot of blood and violence – as we already know, Korean filmmakers know how to create really creepy zombies.
So for those who do not tolerate blood, physiological details and other elements of the horror genre, we advise you to take this into account.
But it's wildly entertaining to see a singer from a popular K-pop group with a chainsaw in her hands, like Ash from Evil Dead, sawing up zombies and making her way to her boyfriend, who she recently tried to break up with.
