Settle in, wrap up warm and enjoy a fantasy weekend.

Cold weekends are a great excuse for just staying in and bingeing a show on Netflix. And while your favourite series can be as comforting as a warm hug, sometimes you want something new.

Here are 7 lesser-known fantasy shows to watch on Netflix:

1. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

There's only 1 season and 10 episodes of this show so far, so it's easy to catch up. A prequel to Jim Henson's 1982 film The Dark Crystal, this puppet show features big names such as Mark Hammill, Helena Bonham-Carter, Simon Pegg and Eddie Izzard.

The premise is that three Gelflings are on a quest to unite their clans and rise up against their tyrannical overlords.

2. Lucifer

An interesting take on Lucifer, this show sees him leave Hell after centuries of punishing people for their sins and move to Los Angeles. Why not? At first he runs a nightclub, but when he gets involved in a murder investigation with LAPD officer Decker, he finds himself effectively becoming her partner in (solving) crime.

It's an urban fantasy with a nice twist, but there are 93 episodes over 6 seasons, so it might take more than a weekend to get through.

3. Shadow and Bone

An adaptation of the book series by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone tells the story of Alina Starkov, who discovers she is a gifted Grisha whose arrival has been long awaited in the fantasy world known as the Grishaverse.

It's a show that has created a unique and believable fantasy world that is easy to get lost in. There are only 2 seasons and 8 episodes. So grab your popcorn and blanket and settle in.

4. Love, Death and Robots

One for fans of fantasy animation. In truth, this series isn't entirely focused on fantasy, but there are many elements of the genre. Each episode is produced by a different studio and they're only loosely connected, so it's worth checking out to see if you're into it.

There are 3 seasons with a total of 35 episodes, ranging in length from 6 to 21 minutes.

5. Bastard!!!

A Japanese animated series set in a D&D-style dystopian universe. A dark rebel army is trying to bring back the demon Anthrasax, who was defeated by the Dragon Knight over 4 centuries ago.

It's classic fantasy done in a modern style – and it's the best of both worlds. Anyone who likes anime or fantasy should give it a go. There are 39 episodes to watch.

6. Cursed

An adaptation of the traditional tale of Merlin and Arthur. In this show, the protagonist is a girl called Nimue, who will one day become the Lady of the Lake. This is a position of great power, but also great responsibility.

It's a coming-of-age show that sees Nimue join Arthur in his own quest to find Merlin, with the two of them facing many challenges and learning what it means to be a hero. A single season consists of 10 episodes.

7. Castlevania (2017)

After his wife is falsely accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake, Vlad Dracula Tepes vows to kill every person in Wallachia in retribution. To exact his revenge, he commands an army of demons and sets about wreaking havoc and destruction across the land.

The only hope for the terrified people of Wallachia is a man named Trevor Belmont, the only surviving member of the legendary family of monster hunters. Belmont enlists the help of wizard Sypha Belnades and the dhampir Alucard.

With 4 seasons and 32 episodes, it's a binge-worthy show if you're committed enough.
