And it is a choice we would not dare to argue with.

Nicolas Cage's career has had its ups and downs, and the variety of his roles is literally staggering. Cage can be seen in classic and cult films as well as expensive blockbusters and modest indie dramas.

He can transform himself into a fearless hero or an infamous villain. His talent has earned him numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Nicolas Cage Calls David Lynch Thriller One of the Best Movies He's Ever Made

But which movie does such a versatile actor consider the best of his career? Nicolas Cage recently answered this question in an interview with Empire:

“I never had more fun working with anybody than I did with David Lynch. And I think Wild At Heart is one of the best movies I've ever made. I'll never be able to do another movie like that.”

And this is a choice that most viewers and critics will agree with.

Cage Was a Perfect Fit for Wild at Heart

David Lynch's Palme d'Or-winning love story is a unique movie in which Nic Cage: 1) sings (and quite well); 2) improvises a lot.

As it turned out, Lynch gave his lead actors complete freedom of action during the filming. And if he trusted his regular actress Laura Dern, then Nicolas Cage was a dark horse.

However, the trust that the actor received from one of the best directors of our generation was fully justified, and Cage's strange facial expressions fit perfectly into the general madness of the movie, not to mention his extremely pretentious image.

What Is Wild at Heart About?

An overprotective mother with a dark past, Marietta objected to her daughter Lula dating a former Mafia driver and decided to take radical action.

She made an unsuccessful attempt to seduce the guy, then sent her friend over with a knife. Sailor easily fended off the attack and killed the man, but ended up behind bars for nearly two years.

Immediately after leaving prison, Sailor and Lula met again and decided never to part. Knowing full well that Marietta would not leave them alone, the passionate lovers decided to run away, with a professional killer on their trail.

Wild at Heart Is a Movie With a Coherent Plot And a Memorable Villain

Wild at Heart is perhaps one of Lynch's most comprehensive films. By and large, this is a story of two lovers being pursued by hired killers – there's none of the director's traditional distortions of space and time, no mysticism.

Even the number of sinister characters is close to zero, except for the appearance of an angel and a girl who got into a car accident. And yes, there is also a strange guy named Bobby Peru, played by Willem Dafoe, vile, insidious and deadly.

Every time he appears on screen, it is a wave of panic. Whether he is threatening to kill, putting on a stocking before a robbery, or losing his head in a confrontation with the police, you will remember his face for a long time.
