The actor seems to be sweeping all the streaming services right now.

Summary:

  • Adam Sandler ’s Happy Gilmore is currently Netflix 's top movie, but the actor’s other major film is also available on Hulu now — and it’s a fan-favorite romcom.
  • Though eventually the film ended up with only 45% on Rotten Tomatoes, it performed quite well in the box office earning almost $200 million.
  • Despite losing in comparison to Groundhog Day, the movie is still one of the best rom coms of the 2000s even after 20 years since its release.

The 2000s movies are getting their prime moment like they never have — and Adam Sandler is its main character.

While the actor’s 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore is living its best second life and dominating Netflix after being released earlier in March, one more of Sandler’s major films (and it’s an iconic romcom) has just quietly landed on Hulu.

50 First Dates starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore debuted back in 2004 and was quick to obtain the status of cult classic and true cultural phenomenon. Despite quite a basic score of 45% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film became a commercial success having grossed almost $200 million in the box office while the initial budget was around $75 million.

The plot revolves around Henry Roth who lives in a Hawaiian resort and has no lack of beautiful women’s company thus putting the commitment idea off further and further. One day he meets Lucy and everything suddenly changes — Henry finally feels like he’s ready for something more serious and Lucy doesn’t seem to mind.

The only problem here is that Lucy doesn’t remember who Henry is the next day after their date as she appears to suffer from short term memory loss. The mission is quite challenging, but Henry’s feelings are apparently strong enough to not give up — and to make Lucy fall in love with him every single day.

The movie eventually somehow fell into comparison with Groundhog Day, a 1993 comedy where the main character gets trapped in a time loop that makes him relive February 2 over and over again.

Despite being downplayed in this case due to lack of complexity and depth, 50 First Dates still holds a special place in Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s careers as one of the best and most-watched rom coms of the 2000s.

50 First Dates can now be streamed on Hulu.
