Justice for the king!

With no new episodes of House of the Dragon for over a month now, fans are revisiting the first season and still completing the analysis of the characters that the first chapter of the TV adaptation of Fire and Blood brought to the screens.

And there is at least one character who, according to the fans, has been done dirty so far.

They are referring to King Aegon II Targaryen, the eldest son of Alicent Hightower, who eventually usurped the throne from Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Although Aegon received a decent amount of screen time, fans feel that the show never fully developed his character as it should have.

The biggest complaint fans have about Aegon's TV version is the lack of his interaction with his dragon, Sunfyre. Of course, given the tight schedule of Season 1, which had to cover dozens of years of events, it was impossible to get everything from the book to the screen. But according to fans, there was at least one scene - the coronation in episode 9 - where Sunfyre simply had to be properly introduced.

House of the Dragon also never explored enough of Aegon's children, many of whom are bastards born after Aegon's brothel sprees.

Another is how little attention is paid to Aegon's bond with his sister Helaena, though some fans are still hoping that this will be explored in season 2.

"There seems to be a lot of bitterness and angst between them, so that'll be fun to see play out between Tom & Phia on screen," Redditor acollisionofstars noted.

Some people believe that the showrunners wanted to focus on Rhaenyra's story in the first season and give Aegon more time in the second season when the Dance of the Dragons breaks out. The self-proclaimed king is not the most likable person in House of Dragons, but let's face it, who is?

"Arguably they gave him some pretty sympathetic moments too, like having an early bond with Jace, his desperation for his parents' love, and the comedic element of him being shamelessly framed by Aemond for spreading rumours about Rhaenyra's kids. He's going to be in the show for a while yet; they have plenty of time to expand on him," Redditor Xanariel said.

The premiere date for the second season of House of the Dragon has not yet been set. However, filming is expected to begin in early 2023.
